Nurse (one's) drink idiom
If you nurse your drink, you drink something, especially alcoholic beverages, at a slow place or in no hurry in order to keep it or not to get drunk.
After the accident, James has learned not to drink excessively any longer. He either nurses his drink or drinks nothing at all when he eats out with his friends.
