Origin of The Midas touch

Midas, King of Phrygia, is said to have begged the gods to turn everything he touched into gold. Midas begged Dionysus to grant his wish, but when the food he wanted to eat turned to gold, he requested the gods to return their gift. Midas was then commanded by Dionysus to bathe in the River Pactolus in order to wash the gift clean.By the seventeenth century the idea was applied figuratively to any person with a gift for making money.
