Give somebody/something up as a bad job phrase
To determine that it is no use doing something or altering someone and then cease making any effort to do it.
I tried to jump over that fence several times, but it was no use. Therefore, I gave it up as a bad job.
If I had given studying English as a bad job, I wouldn't be able to speak English now.
He took the phone that I had thrown away and repaired it. Now, I regret giving repairing it as a bad job too soon.
The verb "give" must be conjugated according to its tense.
The origin of this phrase is not clear.
