Paint (someone or something) with the same brush phrase
To unjustly classify or consider someone or something as being the same as another person or thing, usually in a negative way.
Just because his dad is a criminal doesn't mean you should paint him with the same brush.
Because John plays with Tim, the most disruptive student in class, John is often painted with the same brush as Tim.
It is unwise to paint him with the same brush. He is more intelligent and effective than the others in his team.

This phrase is a variant of "tar someone with the same brush."
