Something for the weekend sir? euphemism obsolete
( Asked euphemistically by barbers) Would you like to purchase a condom or a packet of condoms?
Having finished my haircut, he took out a box full of condoms and asked me, "Something for the weekend, sir?"
When his son asked him what did the barber mean when asking, "Something for the weekend, sir?", a flush of embarrassment rose to his cheeks.
This expression is supposed to be a euphemistic code used by British barbers, to avoid asking directly if a man wanted to buy condoms. The expression was widely used in the UK in the second half of the 20th century.
